Purchasing teams lead the way for cloud computing
The purchasing teams in UK organisations are leading the way in adopting on-demand cloud based computing services according to findings from procurement solutions provider Wax Digital.
In contrast to a recent survey by RainStor, which accused UK firms of adopting cloud based computing solutions with rather less enthusiasm than their US counterparts, Wax Digital's research shows that demand for cloud based services is strong and continuing to rise.
Questioning purchasing directors across 200 UK enterprise organisations, 58% of them were found to have already adopted on-demand purchase to pay, invoicing or eSourcing solutions, with a further 24% considering an investment in new or additional on-demand solutions in 2010.
"We have been delivering on-demand procurement solutions to purchasing professionals for nearly a decade - as a group they have been very receptive to the clear benefits that on-demand delivery offers. And that trend has accelerated in recent months, said Daniel Ball, director, Wax Digital.
Ultimately, on-demand computing is helping purchasing to reduce costs across the business and that will be at the heart of business survival and ultimately economic recovery in 2010![]() Wax Digital

"The economic downturn in 2009 really placed purchasing under the spotlight and speed has been key to survival - by implementing an on-demand solution to help control and drive down spend, organisations can get systems live and delivering ROI within a very short space of time."
The concerns some organisations still cite with regards to Cloud computing - primarily security, ownership and access to data and the ability to mine data effectively - have long since been addressed and the proof of the matter can be seen in the hundreds of household name businesses that now entrust their purchasing processes to on-demand providers.
