Morrisons mucking in with the farmers

by Wax Digital 21. July 2009 10:26

Morrisons announced last month that they were opening their own “farming centre of excellence” in a bid to improve their understanding of their suppliers. By creating their own farm in East Ayrshire Morrisons hope to understand the practices, issues and day-to-day work that their large supply-chain faces in order to meet the demands of the leading supermarket.

This sounds an excellent approach to improving supplier relations and supply chain management, however there are sure to be a few sceptics out there wondering how long it will be before Morrisons begin issuing best practice instructions or changes to current agreements - once they have gained a better working knowledge.

Improving and maintaining supplier relations is of course essential to any supply-chain, and understanding the issues faced by your suppliers will support this; yet when a leading organisation declares they are ‘having a go’ themselves I’m sure they will be watched by their suppliers intently.

What inferences can you draw about the economic and nutritional conditions of small farmers in Latin America or Africa, who are producing food for consumption in the US or western Europe.

This month I'm determined not to spend a fortune on groceries. The plan is to get all fresh fruit and veg from the market and I was thinking of buying all my meat from a butchers from our local Market stall. In general do you think this would be cheaper? Which supermarket do you think is cheaper?

This is a serious topic for non political World. I don't welcome comments from political party workers who are nothing but their leaders. I am repeating the slogan of Swami Vivekananda. Youth of India arise awake to find the cause of misery of the farmers.

I have a problem. I love gardening and it's great, I've planted many herbs, fruits and vegetables and they're coming out wonderfully, my problem starts will the evil weeds.Every week, I take out the weeds that grow in the garden by shoveling out the roots, and the next week they're multiply in number. I do this almost every week and now it's becoming a pain in the neck, and the back. What am I doing wrong, is there some sort of fertilizer that I need to spread or is there something I need to do to get rid of them weeds permanently. It's becoming very annoying and I'm willing to try any effective method that's proven to work in the past.

It seems that the Economic Crisis is doing more damage than a million terrorists. The entire country could be destroyed because of the greed and avarice of certain people who could care less about the average American. Are these the real enemies, the corporate executives who have raped and pillaged our economic system, to line their pockets with cash?

I think that UK will be damaged most by this financial crisis. UK has developed its economy with its financial credits for 20 years. It has abandoned manufacturing industry since 80's. It would be very difficult to recover from this financial crisis.
